Our Story

About us

Caravan Foods began in 1978, founded by Jenny Morris and Gene Freott as a hobby-based business dedicated to providing delicious fresh food to local fairs and festivals. Originally, they began selling a falafel sandwich, a delicious middle eastern alternative to most typical fair foods.

In 1978, Caravan Foods began to produce a dessert like treat and in 1980 Whales Tails was trademarked and unleashed upon Canada. Customers of Whales Tails have come back year after year to enjoy our delicious, sweet or savoury fry bread. It is testifiably addictive and has become a long-standing staple at several fairs across Canada.

After 29 years of serving the public, Jenny Morris And Gene Freott retired. In 2009, the company was sold to Sharon and Gary Doornbosch, whom Gene personally mentored. To this day, Sharon and Gary continue to provide a quality and delicious product for fairs, festivals and corporate events.

“Kids love a good mess and a mess is often a sign of good time.” says award winning author Donna Erickson. Simple activities like playing in a big pile of leaves or splashing in puddles after an afternoon shower become family traditions that kids remember.
